Grade 5

EN/DIN

EN 3311

Titanium Grade 5 is a pure alpha-beta titanium with aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. This alloy is mainly used for corrosion resistance and is the most commonly used property in all product forms. The alloy features very high strength, good corrosion resistance, excellent weight-to-weight ratio and high strength at cryogenic temperatures. It is significantly stronger than commercially pure titanium (Grade1, Grade 4) and has the same hardness and thermal properties (except thermal conductivity, about 60% lower in Grade 5 Ti than CP Ti).

Physical Properties

The most used alloy. It has a chemical composition of 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (maximum) iron, 0.2% (maximum) oxygen, and the rest titanium.  It is significantly stronger than commercially pure titanium (grades 1-4) and has the same hardness and thermal properties (about 60% lower than CP Ti at Class 5 Ti, except thermal conductivity).  Among its many advantages, it can be subjected to heat treatment. This grade is an excellent combination of strength, corrosion resistance, welding and machinability.
