Stainless steel producers have an ongoing development program designed to produce new grades. These new grades are sometimes developed for specific end uses and sometimes to retrofit over an existing grade.
1.4509 round stainless steel covers both of these two areas as it was developed for a specific range of applications in certain industries where it can be used as a replacement for 1.4301 (304) stainless steel. In some respects, its properties and performance in service are actually superior to stainless steel 304, while in others it ranges between 430 and 304. However, in particular, it is also less costly than 304.
