Copper 3444 (CuSn4Pb4Zn4) contains 4% Pb, ie about 3% of the volume is pure Pb. This bronze is very easy to work with, has good wear properties and is resistant to stress corrosion cracking. It was also characterized by good cold formability.
Bronze 3444 has a mixed crystalline structure. The insoluble Pb additive exists as fine particles in the grain boundaries.
Copper 3444 is used for many parts in the electronics, automotive industry, as well as for bearings, valves, spring fittings and other parts in many industries. The addition of 3% by volume B significantly improves workability. Pb is present in the grain boundaries as fine particles, which is the lead crystallization grains during finer annealing.
