Stainless steel 1.4828 is a heat-resistant austenitic steel grade characterized by good high temperature resistance . AISI 309 quality alloy is known for its good strength and oxidation resistance at continuous service temperatures up to 1000 C. Therefore, it can be used primarily wherever high mechanical stress exists. It is superior to 304 stainless in terms of both strength and corrosion resistance.

 

Usage area

309 grade stainless steels, oven liners, boiler compartments, firebox plates, furnace components and other high temperature vessels, parts for steam boilers and furnaces: liners, supports, pipes for air preheaters, covers, containers for surface hardening.

 

Corrosion Resistance

1.4828 (309) quality stainless steel materials are resistant to calcification up to 1050 C in oxidizing environments . 1.4828 steels are sensitive to SO2 and especially to gases containing H2S.

Also, it shows a certain sensitivity to carbonizing gases, especially at temperatures above 900oC. 309 grade stainless steel tends to become brittle due to the Sigma phase formation during continuous operation in the temperature range from 600 to 850 C.

 

Weldability 

Most austenitic stainless steels can be easily welded using melting or resistance methods , although that xiacetylene welding is not recommended.

Filler metal should be AWS E / ER 309 or 309L.

 

Machinability

309 quality alloy type 304 stainless analogy processing can most . It hardens quickly . The tool should always keep cutting and chip breakers should be used.

 

Cold working

Quality 1.4828 (309) alloy, although it has a high work hardening rate, can be drawn, started, distressed and stamped. Complete annealing is required after cold working to relieve internal stress.
